Programs and Events 2014-2015

*August 9, 2014, Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., AAUW/Ohio Leadership Workshop in Roush Hall on the campus of Otterbein, $30 registration includes lunch. To register mail a check for $30 made out to AAUW Ohio with “Leadership Conference” on the memo line to Sue Bigaila, 210 Johnston Hall, BGSU, Bowling Green, OH 43403. Include your name, address, phone number, email address, and the name of the AAUW branch to which you belong. Registration deadline is July 31, 2014.

*August 26, 2014, Women’s Equality Day, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at the Delaware County District Library, 84 E. Winter St. Commemoration of the 94th anniversary of women winning the right to vote. Joint meeting with the Delaware County League of Women Voters. The theme is the 50 year anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Bill. Protest songs from the 60’s led by JoAnn Radwin Zimmerman on the guitar. There will be a panel: Carrie Davis, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Ohio; Karla Herron, Deputy Director of the Delaware County Board of Elections; and Jenny Holland, Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Government at Ohio Wesleyan University. They will discuss voting rights today, including recent legislation and court cases affecting access to the polls, and voting patterns in Delaware County and by women country wide since winning the right to vote. This is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

*September 4, 2014, Thursday, 5:30 p.m. meet for dinner at Amato’s in the back room, followed by attending the 7 p.m. Ohio Wesleyan Sagan Colloquium lecture by Donovan Hohn, author of Moby Duck: The True Story of 28,800 Bath Toys Lost at Sea & of the Beachcombers, Oceanographers, Environmentalists & Fools Including the Author Who Went in Search of Them.

*October 6, 2014, Monday, 7:00 p.m. Candidate and Issue Forum, held jointly with the Delaware County League of Women Voters and Farm Bureau at the Delaware Area Career Center North, 1610 State Route 521, Delaware

*October 11, 2014, Saturday, 9:30 a.m. Joint meeting with the Worthington Branch viewing the documentary “The Invisible War” about sexual assault in the Military, followed by a panel discussion at All Saints Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6770 N. High Street, Worthington.

*October 21, 2014, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. Attend Ohio Wesleyan Sagan Colloquium lecture by Sharon Day, a native rights and religious activist from Minnesota about her experience this May walking the Ohio River and her earlier project, “Walk the Water.”

*November 4, 2014, Tuesday, Election Day 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Go to the polls and VOTE!!!

November 10, 2014, Monday, 7:15 p.m. Ohio Wesleyan Beeghly Library, Park Ave. at the end of S. Franklin St. Discussion of Sharon Day’s “Walking the Ohio River” presentation.

*March 14, 2015, Saturday, 1:30 p.m. Joint meeting with the Worthington Branch at All Saints Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6770 N. High Street, Worthington. The topic is “The Silent Witness Project“, an initiative to support an end to domestic violence through community based exhibits.

*April 8, 2015, Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.. Damon Asbury, Executive Director at the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio will speak on Charter Schools at the Worthington Branch meeting at the Worthington Municipal Building, 6550 High St., Worthington, OH on the second floor.

*May 1-3, 2015, AAUW Ohio Equity Day and Convention, Worthington, OH at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 5100 Upper Metro PL, Dublin, OH 43017. Our Branch will be assisting in hosting this event
