*August 26, 2014, Women’s Equality Day, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at the Delaware County District Library, 84 E. Winter St. Commemoration of the 94th anniversary of women winning the right to vote. Joint meeting with the Delaware County League of Women Voters. The theme is the 50 year anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Bill. Protest songs from the 60’s led by JoAnn Radwin Zimmerman on the guitar. There will be a panel: Carrie Davis, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Ohio; Karla Herron, Deputy Director of the Delaware County Board of Elections; and Jenny Holland, Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Government at Ohio Wesleyan University. They will discuss voting rights today, including recent legislation and court cases affecting access to the polls, and voting patterns in Delaware County and by women country wide since winning the right to vote. This is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

They will explain what the Common Core Initiative means for our students, and answer questions from the audience. *August 27, 2012, 7:00 p.m. Celebrate Women’s Equality Day–at the Delaware District Library, 84 E. Winter St.–In honor of the 92nd anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote. AAUW and the League of Women Voters of Delaware County are holding a joint meeting. The guest speaker is Marlene Carson, Executive Director of Rahab’s Hideaway in Columbus, a shelter for women and girls who have been rescued from trafficking. The meeting is free and open, but a response is requested for purposes of knowing how many to plan for refreshments. Discussion will follow with audience participation encouraged.

Turning Point has been serving domestic violence victims and their families for more than 30 years in Crawford, Delaware, Marion, Morrow, Union and Wyandot Counties. Dakota Daniel, a camper from Delaware, will relate her experiences at last summer’s Be Wise Camp, and Rush Rogers, a Be Wise Instructor from the AAUW Worthington Branch, will speak about Be Wise Camp and how it fits in with the AAUW emphasis on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Education) initiative.

Three speakers will relate their personal experiences. Sen. Theresa Fedor from Toledo is sponsoring SB 235, a bill to create the new offense of trafficking in persons passed in the Ohio Senate this November. HB 493, sponsored by Rep. Kathleen Chandler, is a companion bill that goes beyond SB235 to include civil provisions that address victim protection and traffic prevention. *January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The OSU is hosting events from 1:00PM to 8:30PM. From 1:00PM to 4:15PM in Room 115 at the College of Social Work Stillman Hall, 1947 College Rd, Michelle Hannan, Director of Community and Professional Service, the Salvation Army Central Ohio will be featured. From 5:00PM to 6:30PM a film screening of “Playground” will be shown in the Saxbe Auditorium, Moritz College of Law, 55 W 12th Ave. Theresa Flores a survivor and author of “The Slave Across the Street” will be presenting her personal account from 6:45PM to 7:15PM, followed by a panel discussion with Theresa Flores, Michelle Hannan, Dr. Celia Williamson from the University of Toledo, Aaron Dennis from the Columbus Police Dept., Lilleana Cavenaugh from Ohio Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs. This panel moderator will be Christina Conrad from the Salvation Army. All of these events are open to the public.

*January 12. Representative Theresa Fedor (formerly Senator Fedor) is hosting an Awareness Day Forum on Human Trafficking from 9:00AM to 11:30AM at the Ohio Statehouse in the Statehouse Atrium. It will feature a keynote address by Mark Lagon, CEO of the Polaris Project, about tackling the problem of Human Trafficking and a panel of experts including EleSondra De Romano from Wake Up Youth, Celia Williamson from Second Chance, Jake Hardie of the FBI, Pete Swartz of the Toledo Police Department, Amy Allen from ICE, and Hon. Connie Zemmelman. Also addressing the audience will be: Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, U.S. Attorneys Carter Stewart & Steve Dettelbach, Rep. Kathleen Chandler, Sen. Jim Hughes and Dawn Conway, the Sr. Vice President for Corporate Responsibility at Lexis Nexis. There will be a lunch from 12pm to 2pm. This is free and open to the public. Jennifer Brunner, former Ohio Secretary of State is the keynote speaker in the Summit Room at Willowbrook at Delaware Run, 100 Delaware Crossing W, off route 36 (William St). Other panel members are Catherine Turcer, Dennis Stapleton, and Jo Ingles. Catherine Turcer is Ohio Citizen Action Money and Politics Project Director. Dennis Stapleton is a Delaware County Commissioner and former Ohio House of Representatives member. Jo Ingles is the Ohio Public Radio Statehouse Reporter.

May 7, 2011 ” Celebrate 41st Anniversary of Earth Day”, potluck picnic brunch in the park at 9AM and installation of officers will take place in the classroom of the Lodge Nature Center at Deerhaven, 4183 Liberty Rd, Delaware.

*June 2011, Be Wise Camp. One week will be selected for this girls’ math, science, and technology camp to be held on the campus of Dennison University in Granville, OH. AAUW/OH is a sponsor of the camp. The Delaware Branch offers aid to local girls who to attend.

*August 26, 2011 “Women’s Equality Day”, Women were given the right to vote on August 26, 1920 when the 19th Amendment was certified. Every president has issued a proclamation for “Women’s Equality Day” since 1971 when a resolution was passed designating this day’s recognition with that honor.
